VDA 6.1 is the German automotive industry-standard that defines the requirements for quality management systems in this industry.
Standard VDA 6.1. is issued by VDA QMC (Qualitäts Management Center in Verband der Automobilindustrie), which processes and distributes it. Standard VDA 6.1, like QS 9000, contains the full text of ISO 9001, which complements with other requirements of the automotive industry, in particular the requirements for the introduction of new products, product endorsement by customer, and requirements for process capability and requirements for continuous improvement.
Use of VDA 6.1 in practice: VDA 6.1 serves as a reference model for setting of the basic management processes in the automotive industry. The introduction of standard helps to continuously improve product quality and customer satisfaction. Standard VDA 6.1, like other technical standards, defines minimum standard, requires the following certification of established management system (established processes) in the organizations of especially the German automotive industry. The result is a certificate VDA 6.1. The whole supply chain must then also be guided by the standard.
This German standard has been gradually replaced by the worldwide standard ISO/TS 16949.
