Staff evaluation is a term that refers to one of the personnel activities. The purpose of evaluation is motivating, controlling and correcting the way of work and work behavior of the worker. The obtained information provides a feedback to both, the worker and organization.

The essence of evaluation is to review the work of an employee, to evaluate his work behavior and his working relationships with coworkers and customers. The results are then discussed with the employee in a form of an evaluation interview, and altogether they search for suitable ways and measures for improvement.

During the evaluation interview, recorded data on job performance are discussed - the results of employee data, costs, etc. Simultaneously, the worker provides the feedback about working conditions, workplace climate, etc.

The evaluation is executed in two ways - formally and informally. The most suitable person to evaluate is the immediate superior of the worker. Informal evaluation is carried out occasionally. Formal evaluation is usually carried out at least once a year.

The assessment must be carried out systematically to be effective - the organization should establish an evaluation system that should be continuously applied and improved.

Staff evaluation serves as the basis for remuneration, performance improvement, deployment, training and motivating of employees, etc.
