Sociometry is one of the most popular methods of social network analysis. Its author is Jacob Levy Moreno, who originally developed it for the needs of group psychotherapy. During the sociometric measurement all members of the study group correspond to questions such as:
- Who in the group do you have a positive relationship with?
- Who in the group do you have a negative relationship with?
- Who in the group does have the authority?
- Who are you often in touch with?
- Who do you avoid?
- etc.
Generally, the purpose is to map all relationships and divide them into positive and negative choices (or on the relationships of positive, negative or zero direction). Sociogram is a graphical output of sociometry.
The result of sociometry is important for assessing the climate in the group (organization, unit, team, etc.)
