Social Research Techniques are methods of data collection in social research.
There are four basic techniques as follows:
- Direct Observation - monitoring of selected phenomena, the results are carefully recorded
- Interview - direct interaction with the respondent conducted face-to-face or by telephone
- Questionnaire - a respondent answers in writing to questions from the printed form (electronic forms can be used, too)
- Document analysis - analysis of any documents that were not created for the purpose of the research itself
If during the interview the interviewer asks questions according to the questionnaire, which fills himself, the technique is referred to as Pen and Paper interview.
