Prophylaxis

Prophylaxis refers to preventive or preventive protection.

The term originally comes from a medical environment where it refers to a preventive healthcare/medicine or protection against disease. In the corporate environment, the term refers to preventative monitoring, examination, inspection, check or control of the facility aiming at preventing breakdowns, failures, attacks and other negative phenomena.

Therefore, prophylaxis is simply prevention. Besides the above mentioned checks and active monitoring of the state of the facility, it can also consist of tests, cleaning, minor repairs, adjustments, settings, and so on. The goal of prophylaxis is to extend the lifespan or prevent negative phenomena that may be caused by lacking or insufficient care and preventive maintenance.
