PRINCE2 (PRojects IN Controlled Environment) is a methodology owned / issued by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC). Currently, it is the most widely used project management methodology in Europe.
PRINCE2 methodology is based on seven principles. It consists of seven processes, and describes seven topics. Within a specific project, it is necessary to adapt PRINCE 2 methodology, which means that it is necessary to understand the principles that are the backbone of the whole methodology. Individual processes can be simplified, and each of them has many possible uses according to the project specifics. However, the principles remain to ensure that the project is a project in a controlled environment. Promoting the adaptation of the methodology included in the manual, is an important advantage of PRINCE2 compared to PMBOK. On the contrary, PRINCE2 doesn’t cover areas such as leadership, managerial skills, detailed coverage of project management tools, which are described in detail by already existing and proven methods. The certification system for project managers according to PRINCE2 was developed.
