Production Part Approval Process, the abbreviation PPAP is used. It is a method or instructions for setting up the approval process of the parts intended for the production. It is used primarily in the automotive industry. PPAP requirements were developed by the Automotve Industry Action Group (AIAG) as a part of APQP method to encourage the use of the unified processes, common terminology and standard form.
Use of the PPAP method in practice: PPAP method is used to demonstrate that a company properly understands all requirements of the product construction documenation and all customer specifications and that it is able to produce the product in the production process consistently meeting these requirements. PPAP method helps to reduce the risks of production failure and supports and improves the use of the APQP method. The business applying PPAP methodology shows that:
- Components suppliers understand their requirements
- Product meets customer requirements
- Production process is able to produce consistently satisfactory product
PPAP must be applied to all business points supplying production parts.
Current version of the PPAP:
- 4th edition is harmonized with the requirements of ISO/TS 16949
