What is PET (Preliminary English Test)
PET (Preliminary English Test) is an English exam that is focused on general knowledge in English. PET is the second level among Cambridge Certificates. It is focused on intermediates who are able to handle basic situations, basic English communications and large vocabulary.

PET (Preliminary English Test) is an English exam that is focused on general knowledge in English. PET is the second level among Cambridge Certificates. It is focused on intermediates who are able to handle basic situations, basic English communications and large vocabulary. PET Test is 60-70 % FCE difficulty.

PET is by the level of difficulty equivalent to the Business English BEC Preliminary.

Use of the PET Certificate in practice: PET Certificate is internationally and generally recognized. However it is focused on general English, it is recognized as an alternative to business English BEC Preliminary. PET is one of the lower secondary level of general English which can be requested as a qualification requirement for the employee or a specific profession or job for which the English knowledge is not essential. PET certificate increases the value of the candidate in the labor market.

PET certificate is designed for people who need to use English in daily life or work but doesn’t meet the requirements for admission to universities in English speaking countries.

PET certificate applicant can take the exam in one of the authorized centers (see BEC). To achieve the PET level it should be about 400 hours of study. The PET roughly corresponds to level B2 according to CEFR.
