Literacy is a term used for a person’s ability to read, write and count. Literacy is the ability to understand and focus on the text, the ability to sign and the ability of basic numbers.
Basic literacy is not sufficient in the modern world and therefore it is spoken about higher requirements, so called functional literacy, which is comprised of the three basic components such as ability to understand continuous text (literary literacy), ability to work with text and search in it (document literacy) and ability to work with mathematical operations (numeracy).
Why we need a literacy for and what kinds of literacy exist?
Virtually all professions in the modern world require basic literacy as a necessary condition. Requirements for the competencies and qualification requirements must therefore be further extended to other types of literacy. Among the most common higher levels of literacy in the organizations belong:
- Financial literacy
- Institutional literacy
- Information Literacy
- Internet Literacy
- Language Literacy
- Media literacy
- Managerial Literacy
- Computer Literacy
- Work literacy
