ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence)

ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) is globally widespread set of certification programs of computer literacy and computer skills and knowledge. ECDL is issued and guaranteed by the ECDL Foundation.

ECDL comprises several parts of the training and certification:

• ECDL/ICDL Program:
  • ECDL Start Certificate - international document of computer (digital) literacy. It demonstrates that the holder of this certificate is digitally literate, i.e. that controls the basics with the computer, respectively with information and communication technologies (ICT), in the most common areas of their use.
  • ECDL Certificate - international certificate of computer (digital) qualification (Digital Competence). It demonstrates that the holder of this certificate is fully digitally qualified, i.e. that it is fully prepared for the effective use of information and communication technologies (ICT) as the labor market requires.

• ECDL/ICDL Advanced Program:

  • ECDL Advanced Certificate - international document of professional user computer skills and knowledge (Digital Excellence) in the corresponding area. The holder of this certificate is able to efficiently, effectively and professionally use the office applications in the area for which the document was issued.
  • ECDL Expert Certificate - international document of professional user computer skills and knowledge (Digital Excellence). The holder of this certificate is able to efficiently, effectively and professionally use the office applications in all common areas.

Use of the ECDL in practice: The worker’s ownership of the certificate is for the organization a proof of completion of a certain degree of the qualification in computer literacy. It is therefore often required in the requirements of some jobs, and applicants list it in their resumes. Certification ECDL / ICDL is an internationally recognized and globally standardized, objective and independent process. The advantage for the ECDL certificate holder is that it is portable between countries. For organizations and enterprises it is a guarantee of a uniform level of qualification.
