TGS and Chicago Gaming United team up for an epic high school NBA2K tournament. VANCOUVER BC, Sept. 30, 2020 /CNW• TGS Esports Inc. has joined forces with NBA 2K22 MT Chicago Gaming United to produce an incredible NBA2K event for Chicagoland high school students with the winners of each division receiving educational scholarships.
“School doesn’t have to be just about learning. It’s also about relationships, sports, and, most importantly, finding a community. The pandemic has shown how important these connections are important for teens.” said Spiro Khouri, CEO of TGS. “Esports filled that void, even as the rest of the world was on pause. This event is an opportunity for kids to come from all across the globe together for one event.”
The tournament, which will feature two divisions, an Xbox and PlayStation division, will be held online on the weekends of November 7 and 11. 14-15. The final round, which will be comprised of the Elite 8 in each division and will take place on over the weekend of the 21-22nd of November. The stream will be live via TGS’ Twitch channel. TGS will manage the tournament, bringing professional level production and tournament management.
Alongside the scholarship in addition, a part of the earnings from the event will benefit three charities, among them Cxmmunity, which focuses on promoting participation of minorities in games like esports. Also, the Beyond Sports foundation Buy 2K MT, dedicated to converting athletic abilities into opportunities for real life as well as That Harper Kid, the foundation founded by former Chicago Sky guard Linnae Harper for the benefit of local youth.
