NBA 2K21 was one of the handful of games that had a full next-gen enhancement prepared to go on launching day. Adding revamped graphics, in addition to several noteworthy new features, NBA 2K21 actually seemed like a substantial update from the last-gen counterpart. The game even has a new cover, with Zion Williamson taking the ring up for next-gen. However, upgrades weren’t free unless gamers purchased the $100 Mamba Edition. Otherwise, they’d need to buy the match in full for $70. After spending a significant quantity of time together with NBA 2K21 on next-gen it is hard to say that what is here really warrants the asking cost. Fans of the series have grown accustomed to picking up their phone and scroll through social media when loading into matches or swapping manners, so the faster speeds are a nice treat. While playing on the Xbox Series X, I never had to wait longer than a couple of seconds to get into a game. Navigating throughout the MyCareer menu, hitting continue, and instantly being set on the court felt just like magic.Overall, the loading speeds of the next-gen consoles create 2K21 a much better experience. Hardcore players are used to marathoning games, and these snappy load times make everything simpler. Even loading into the game’s online manners, which have been notoriously slow before.
NBA 2K21 next-gen impressions: Coming off the bench
NBA 2K21’s graphics get a facelift in its own next-gen version. Already regarded for its high-level recreation of the NBA’s biggest stars, there’s a noticeable step up in quality. The light is better, along with the faces look much more lifelike. Some of the characters in cutscenes still seem somewhat rough, but the players themselves seem better than ever.As far as mechanics, 2K21 doesn’t reinvent the wheel with its next-gen version. However, the developers used this chance to add some more unique animations into the game. Including some new animations for alley-oops, that can be incredibly satisfying to pull off. Additionally, I felt like dribbling and ball movement were only smoother overall when playing Xbox Series X.
One of the more welcome adjustments in next-gen 2K21 is that the addition of the G League. Now, when coming out of high school, players may decide to take the traditional path to the NBA and go to college, or enter the G League. While faculty will provide the players with greater exposure and fans, the G League can help them enhance their skills quicker, with increased progression on badges and abilities.
