Disruptive technology is the notion of an American professor Clayton M. Christensen. Disruption generally means tearing, cracking or breaking. Disruptive means revolutionary.
Disruptive technologies significantly outperform and replace existing technologies. Therefore, it is not gradual, evolutionary change, but a radical change. In terms of processes, it is a revolutionary process change (according to Thomas Davenport).
Clayton Christensen later switched from the term “disruptive technology” to the term “disruptive innovation”. By this, he wanted to indicate that revolutionary is not so much the technology itself as a revolutionary way of their implementation in an organization (whether in manufacturing or support processes).
Disruptive innovation may not only include innovations in the production, but also an innovation in other areas - other types of innovation.
